July 2006 to now: Residents Association Developing access databases to meet ongoing requirements for the
chair of the association. The databases are relationally structured
and have lookup tables, forms, queries and reports.
May 2005 to June 2006: bfluent Communications Developing and deploying web pages, advising on eLearning.
Jan. 2002 to Apr.2005: Southampton University
Worked for the International Centre for Underutilized Crops.
Rebuilt the main website including content drawn from an Access
database. Also worked on a biodiversity project researching
XML schemas and generating ontologies from database triple
storage using PHP and mySql.
Nov. 2000 to Dec.2001: Integra
Built Java servlets to create web interfaces. The server side
Java processed HTML templates containing embedded tokens.
The tokens were replaced at runtime by Java generated HTML and
data from an Oracle 8 database. Transactions were recorded in
XML, styled using XSL.

May 2000 to Oct. 2000: Yeoman Group Worked on Wap phone applications using WML, coding decks of 'cards'.
Investigated how to integrate paper maps with GPS or other
positional information to provide location or routing services.
Used Active Server Pages, Dreamweaver Ultra Dev, SQL and DLL's
written in Visual Basic 6. The ASP was deployed using
Internet Information Server (IIS).
Oct. 1999 to Feb. 2000: Southampton College
Lectured part-time in Relational Database Design, using Access,
to a mixed ability class of thirty students.

Sept. 1998 to May 2000: Ordnance SurveyHelped rationalise software during a project to replace PCs.
Helped users develop and modify Access databases.
Aug. 1997 to Oct. 1998: Animated Systems Ltd. Worked supporting various Access database applications for the London
Institute, which runs the admin for several London Art Colleges.
Also web development, created a promotional website to assist the
sale of books.
Jan. 1997 to Jul. 1997: IBM
Tested the Graphical User Interface of software for Xyratex,
(formerly IBM). Suggested GUI improvements to make the software
design more user friendly. Created a skills database to track the
monthly staff appraisals and to help managers allocate staff to
projects.
Oct. 1996 to Jan. 1997: Self Employed
Created the Oxford Cherwell Tutorial College website. Content from
the prospectus was captured and deployed.

Nov. 1987 to Oct. 1996: British Gas Ran an Activity Based Costing System written in Access. Monthly
reports were based on input from NIAS costs, labour and mainframe
usage. Helped develop an expert system that used billing data to
determine whether a particular debt should be written off or pursued.
Over two hundred concepts used in the decision process.
